A Note from the Author
Hello, nice to meet you!
In 2020, during the quiet of the pandemic, I began writing my first book as a way to spend time during a stay-at-home order. Writing had always interested me and I had taken writing classes since middle school, but I was never sure I could make an entire career out of it. I started anyway.
What started as an outlet slowly grew into years of steady writing and years of learning what it really takes to bring a book to life. Man, was I in for it!
I consistently ran into the same challenges—scattered resources, confusing guidelines on self-publishing, royalty and contract changes I couldn’t keep up with, editors on one site, cover artists on another, and social media groups that were more noisy than helpful.
On a family vacation, the idea for Pelican Sail Press really hit me. I was frustrated and realized that what I needed—a space where writers, readers, and everyone in between could come together in one place—didn’t exist. Authors, editors, communities, and creatives alike were all scattered, and I wanted to change that.
While my personal focus is nonfiction self-development, my vision is bigger than that. Pelican Sail Press exists to support all kinds of storytellers and literary minds. It’s here to build community, offer a helping hand, and keep the work of writing both grounded and possible.
I’m so glad you’ve made it here, and I hope you find everything you need. Welcome to Pelican Sail Press.
With love,
Melissa Renee
